Discovery Day Celebrations

Aug 14 - Aug 17

Discovery Days in Dawson City celebrates the discovery of gold in what is now known as Bonanza Creek in August 1896 by Kate Carmack, her husband George Carmack, brother Skookum Jim and cousin Dawson Charlie. Their Discovery of gold led to one of the world’s greatest gold rush stampedes, where nearly 100,000 people migrated north in an attempt to strike it rich during the Klondike Gold Rush.

Today, Yukon celebrates our grand history with a weekend festival in Dawson City, known as Discovery Days. The weekend is made up of events such as a parade, a fastball tournament, a golf tournament, a horticultural exhibition, as well as live music and art!
