The Teslin Rocks Country concert on June 23 features award-winning headliners Aaron Pritchett and The Washboard Union

On June 23 Teslin will again be hosting an electrifying country-rock concert called Teslin Rocks Country, featuring a slate of excellent contemporary Canadian country artists. Headlining the show will be two artists from from British Columbia: Aaron Pritchett and The Washboard Union.

Aaron Pritchett’s reputation as a solid and well-known country artist in Canada spans over 20 years. Hailing from Gabriola Island/Nanaimo, Pritchett has played to sell-out shows throughout Canada, is an avid fan of hockey, a tireless contributor to many charitable causes and has a special place in his heart for small communities across Canada, having himself come from a small northern British Columbia town.

Pritchett is no stranger to the Yukon. He attended the first Teslin Rocks Country in 2016 and also attended the West Coast Music Awards in 2011. While here in 2011, he heard about two students who suffered severe injuries in a bonfire accident. Pritchett immediately offered to do a concert for free and performed at Porter Creek Secondary School.

“I’m very excited about coming back to Teslin to do another show,” Pritchett said when asked about the return engagement. “The last one in 2016 was a great time.”

Pritchett has won multiple music awards, including the 2016 B.C. Country Music Awards’ Single of the Year and Video of the Year for “Dirt Road in ‘Em,” which is from his 2016 album The Score. The Score was also nominated for a Juno for Best Country Album. It debuted in the top spot of the Canadian country music charts, and the singles “VW Bus”, “When a Momma’s Boy Meets a Daddy’s Girl” and “Out of the Blue” all were in the top 20. His hit song “Hold My Beer” from his 2006 album Big Wheel continues to be played on song lists, and is almost an anthem in his concerts. The Washboard Union, who are based in Vancouver, have become a must -ave act for major festivals and concerts in Canada. Winning multiple music industry awards over the past couple years, they are quickly becoming one of the most recognized country artists in Canada today. They have taken Canada by storm, performing in 40 to 50 festivals and concerts, in addition to radio guest appearances, including performing their hit “Shine” on center stage at this year’s Canadian Country Music Awards. Their most recent releases “Shine” and “What We’re Made Of” have become ever popular themes in their concerts.

The Teslin Rocks Country event will be their first show in the Yukon. “It’s our first time in the Yukon, and we are very excited to come to Teslin, in the Teslin Arena, in the Land of the Midnight Sun,” the band said in a video for the show.

Country music fans in western Canada had a chance to catch them live earlier this year, as they opened for the American band Old Dominion’s tour through Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia in February, and are heading out across Canada again this spring and summer, with dates in Ontario and Quebec in August.

Check out the video for their song “What We’re Made Of” on their website at www.TheWashboardUnion.com.

Rounding out the show will be Jordan Aaron, an up-and coming country musician from Vancouver; Mussell and the Flex, a novel rock and country cover band from Victoria; and Whitehorse singer-songwriter Roger Gabriel, who performed in the first Teslin Rocks Country in 2016.

We are excited to be hosting this event, which will mark only the second time in a number of years that Teslin has held a musical event, and will certainly be as notable as Teslin Rocks Country 2016 was. We are looking forward to once again putting on a premium concert in Teslin.

The Teslin Rocks Country event takes place on Saturday, June 23 at the Teslin Arena. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m.

Tickets are available in Teslin at the Nisutlin Bay Trading Post, and in Whitehorse, tickets are available at Dean’s Strings, Big Bear Off-Sales, and Whiskey Jacks Off-Sales.
