Creating Landscape Compositions in Acrylic

Jul 11 @ 10:00 AM
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore shape blocking, intentional placement, and strategies for identifying and simplifying a subject to create balanced, impactful landscape studies. Through guided demonstrations and practical exercises, artists will learn how to break complex scenes into essential shapes and values, arrange elements for balance and movement, and eliminate unnecessary detail. Emphasis will be placed on composition, contrast, and focal points to create paintings that feel structured, purposeful, and visually engaging. Ideal for a range of experience, this workshop strengthens the core skills that lead to more confident, cohesive landscape work.
Saskatoon-based visual artist and arts educator Erin Haight brings a deep connection to place throughout her work and teaching. Her artwork explores the Canadian landscape — particularly the vast and varied skies, forests, and waters of Saskatchewan. Through layered acrylic techniques, thoughtful blending, and a careful study of colour and light, she captures both the dramatic and the serene qualities that shape our land. Her paintings are less about documenting a scene and more about conveying the feeling of a place — the quiet stillness before a storm, the warmth of evening light, or the emotional weight of an open horizon.
