SALMON FUTURES – Science and Stewardship of Salmon Ecosystems

Mar 21 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm MST

Salmon Futures - Science and Stewardship of Salmon Ecosystems
Jonathan Moore
Liber Ero Chair of Coastal Science and Management at Simon Fraser University. He leads the Salmon Watersheds Lab, is an aquatic ecologist, and a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, as well as Resource and Environmental Management.
The salmon watersheds of western North America are being rapidly transformed by climate change in addition to the pressure exerted by industrial land-uses. Jonathan studies forward-looking and collaborative science and stewardship of salmon ecosystems. For instance, warming water temperatures can harm sensitive salmon, on the other hand, glacier retreat is creating new rivers and lakes for salmon, but these nascent habitats are also the location of active mining. This talk will showcase the need for climate change action and local opportunities to increase climate resilience.
