A Discover Snorkeling event run by Virginia Labelle of Yukon Scuba will be run on November 6th between 9 – 9pm at the Canada Games Centre pool.  The event is targeted at first time snorkelers, especially families looking to make the most of their ocean-side vacation during the winter months.

Virginia Labelle is a certified PADI dive instructor since December 2013 and has been running scuba diving courses in the Yukon for a year and a half.  She has trained just over 100 divers in the Yukon from the ages of 10 and up. The upcoming Discover Snorkeling course is the first she intends to run in Whitehorse at the behest of previous clients.

“We will be providing everything required for the program, mask and snorkels, with the goal of having participants become comfortable with the snorkel and diving down,” said Virginia “They will learn to clear the snorkel and sun protection as well as additional weight control if necessary.”

Space is limited for safety to a maximum of eight participants and participants are requested to book with Virginia at 332-0351 prior to the event.

Unfortunately, there is not much snorkeling in the Yukon as even the more popular dives in the Yukon like the wreck in Lake Laberge is too cold and deep at 18 meters for snorkelers.  However, both the Discover Snorkeling and Open Water Scuba Diving programs are great preparation for a winter vacation trip to more suitable climes.  Past participants have made their way around the world including Mexico, Hawaii, Thailand and more, finishing the whole or part of the diving program with Yukon Scuba prior to their trip.
