Didee & Didoo – Poem “Canada Day”

Canada Day

On Canada Day,

an Elder will pray.

Our Gwichin Nation,

put on a celebration.

O Canada we sing loud,

because Canadians, we’re proud.

We have a sports day,

and baseball we play.

Against the ladies we have a tug-of-war,

and of course they pull us far.

The little tikes,

race on their bikes.

Rangers are all dressed,

in our very best.

Kids hold balloons,

and we play fiddle tunes.

We have canoe races,

and kids paint their faces.

Elders join in the fun,

under the Midnight Sun.

Even mosquitoes celebrate,

because we make good bait.
